The Charlatans - Wonderland

THE CHARLATANS

Wonderland

Charlatans fans rejoice! Burgess and co. are back with their new LP, and it's great. The band have really benefitted from Tim Burgess being based in Los Angeles and the rest of them being left back in Blighty, as the blend of Americana in the lyrics and, to a certain extent, in the music added to the Northwich vibe gives them a new maturity. Certain tracks have what sounds like a drum and bass influence too, like the country-tinged ‘A Man Needs To Be Told’. There are still hints of the baggy attitude of early singles, but it's Burgess' vocal talents which really make the album, as well as a remarkable instrumental, ‘The Bell And The Butterfly’. Top, go buy.
